An Autumn Miscellany (1989)

This evening’s entertainment was around the theme of thanksgiving for Harvest with special poems (about autumn) and music, which included We plough the fields (from Godspell).  Again our audience enjoyed a meal in the interval.

Our audience also asked for a reprise of some numbers from Follow the Star and Putting on the Style, but we also sang the title song from our next production Make me a world.  Other items were “Don’t put your daughter on the stage, Mrs Worthington”, “London Pride” and “Lullaby of Broadway”. Our dancers interpreted “Blue Moon”.

Little did we know at the time of the following which Norman the Gnome – the gnome reporting from a toadstool in the Minister’s garden – would attract from this, his first appearance.  Norman made intermittent surprise appearances with ever more revelations in subsequent variety shows until eventually banned (by the actor’s real wife!).  Unfortunately, for some inexplicable reason, we seem to have no photographs of Norman in our archive collection…..
